About Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support aim to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK. They provide specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer, along with practical and emotional support. The Macmillan team is made up of everyone from the nurses and therapists helping people through treatment and the advisers telling you which benefits you’re entitled to, through to the campaigners improving cancer care and the volunteers giving people a hand with the everyday things.

In 2018, Macmillan supported an estimated 5.2 million people affected by cancer in the UK through at least one of their services. This inclused 1.9 million people receiving in-depth support from Macmillan professionals or sercvices including:

• 1.4 million people living with cancer.
• 112,000 carers of people with cancer.
• 337,000 other people affected by cancer. (including family, friends, colleagues, and worried well.)

There are more than 2 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and as more people live longer with their cancer, this number is set to grow to 4 million by 2030. Macmillan want to make sure we can provide support to everyone who needs it, to help people affected by cancer feel more in control of their lives.

How your donation helps

52p = a copy of The cancer guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer, and their families, understand more about cancer, its treatment, and the help available.

£10 = five typical Macmillan information and support centres stocked with all the information resources they need to support people affected by cancer for an hour

£19 = a Macmillan benefits adviser to work in a Citizens Advice Bureau for an hour, when they would advise people with cancer, their families and carers so they can access benefits and other kinds of financial support they are entitled to

£70 = help run a large Macmillan information and support centre for one hour.

£370 = the hire of a room for a year so a cancer self-help and support group could hold regular meetings.

£1,020 = a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

£3,424 = operation of the MacMillan phone service for two hours. In this time, cancer support specialists could answer 96 calls and emails from people who want questions answered, need practical or financial support, or just want to chat.
